Greece in Europe: “Bulgarian lev makes inroads in Greece” (EurObserver): “Greeks used to see Bulgarians as their destitute northern neighbours. But now, with Greek banks closed and the state lurching toward a possible euro exit, hotels and restaurants in northern Greece are taking payments in Bulgarian levs.” Read more here

Home affairs: “UK and Spain granted most EU citizenships” (EurObserver): “Spain and the UK issued almost half of all new EU citizenships in 2013. The figures, released on Wednesday (1 July) by the EU statistical office, Eurostat, show Spain accounted for around 23 percent (225,800) of all citizenships granted in the EU, while the UK accounted for 21 percent (207,500).”  Read full article

Euro e Finance: “EU, IMF add to the confusion ahead of Greek referendum” (EurActiv): “The EU and IMF issued warnings about the perilous state of Greece’s finances yesterday (2 July), ahead of a referendum that will determine its future in the eurozone. As Greece’s leftist leaders staked their political lives on the outcome of Sunday’s vote, the International Monetary Fund warned the country’s growth prospects had deteriorated dramatically since the Syriza party came to power in January.” Read more here
